Copper Atlas
A brass-led six-piece with sharp arrangements and a rhythm section built for dancing.
Six people, one pulse
Copper Atlas put trumpet, trombone, and saxophone over drums, bass, and guitar. Their arrangements switch quickly between a single horn line and all three playing together.
The group’s demo record Street Level grew out of rehearsals in a community hall. Each tune has a written opening and ending, with the middle left open for a different soloist each night.
The Saturday set
Expect a full hour with few pauses. “Crossing Bell” starts with drums alone; “First Ferry” hands the melody from horn to horn. The final tune is new, with a guitar line that keeps running after the brass falls away.
